Anti-Obama DVD Targets Key States
The feature-length documentary “Hype: The Obama Effect” is being distributed as a free DVD insert in five newspapers: The Cleveland Plain Dealer, The Columbus Dispatch, and the Cincinnati Enquirer in Ohio; the Las Vegas Review Journal in Nevada; and The Palm Beach Post in South Florida.
“Our film ‘Hype’ sets the record straight on just who Barack Obama really is,” Citizens United President David Bossie tells Newsmax. “He’s a radical leftist who is, comparatively speaking, a socialist and someone who is ill-prepared, and indeed unprepared, to lead America in a time of national-security peril when enemies around the world want to destroy the United States.”
The film reviews Obama’s associations with radicals, reveals the details of his political rise in Chicago, and reviews his designation by the National Journal as the most liberal member of the U.S. Senate.

An anti-Obama DVD that showed up in copies of Central Ohioans Columbus Dispatch on Tuesday was part of a marketing campaign for a conservative movie production company based in Washington, D.C.
Hype: The Obama Effect, which premiered at Easton Towne Center AMC Theater Wednesday, is one of nine movies Citizens United Productions has released since 2004. Its first release, Celsius 41.11, was the conservative response to Michael Moore’s leftist view in Fahrenheit 9-11, a searing evaluation of the Bush administration and its response to 9-11.
“We discovered there are really no conservative filmmakers out there. Hollywood, in general, is not to the right,” said Citizens United spokesman Will Holley. “We’ve just gone forward from there.”

Filming for the right
Secular conservatives remain an unreliable box-office constituency, if the returns for "An American Carol" are any indication.
David Bossie, president of the conservative group Citizens United, says "Carol's" modest opening could hurt like-minded films in the short term.
Nevertheless, Mr. Bossie is optimistic about the genre's future.
"This is a test of what can be done. I believe there's gonna be many more," Mr. Bossie says. "This needs to be seen as the first of many films, not a solitary event."
Some of the movies will be coming from Citizens United's own film division. The group, which previously released documentaries including "Hype: The Obama Effect" and "Border War," will soon start making narrative films.

Who Is Barack Obama?
Anybody who doesn't think John McCain can defeat Barack Obama by focusing on real issues is somebody who hasn't seen Citizens United's latest documentary tour de force, "Hype: The Obama Effect."
On the heels of successful documentaries a) answering Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 911," b) criticizing the United Nations, c) exploring with Newt Gingrich this nation's history of acknowledging God in the public square, and d) taking the fight to Hillary Clinton, CU's David Bossie now has produced a superlative, fact-heavy analysis of Barack Obama's record, rhetoric, ideology and inclinations. Granted, "Hype" includes no interviews with anybody left of the political center-right, so the opinions in it are predictably expressed from a conservative perspective. But facts are facts, and "Hype" outlines a bevy of them in a manner that should compel any fair-minded viewer to wonder if Obama is anywhere even within sniffing distance of the broad American political mainstream.
The establishment media, Bossie says, have not spent nearly enough "questioning who Barack Obama is, what he stands for, and if he is ready to lead America.... There are very few places where the full record of Barack Obama is available."

US election: David Bossie's 'Hype: The Barack Obama Effect' aims to portray the Democrat as an extremist radical - By Paul Harris
The title of the film playing in the darkened movie theatre said it all. "Hype: The Obama Effect" was not going to be a sympathetic treatment of the Democratic candidate for the presidency.
The film's executive producer, David Bossie, urged the audience to take free DVDs of the film and show it to friends back home. He offered to help anyone wanting to put on a show in a local church or veterans hall.
"We want as many people as possible in America to see this film before election," he said. He beseeched delegates to get the word about the film. "Starting today, after you guys leave here, you will talk about the film to you friends," he said.

U College Republicans protest Obama in Denver - By Jed Layton
U students spent a portion of their Sunday afternoon handing out posters and flyers to people waiting in line to see the world premiere of "Hype: The Obama Effect," a documentary on Obama. They also talked with the movie patrons and encouraged them to sign up for volunteer work in the coming election.
"Hype" is a film made by Citizens United Productions, which has also produced movies on Hillary Clinton and Ted Kennedy. It has received attention from various media outlets and its producers define the film as a groundbreaking review of the dark, unknown story of Obama.
Will Holley, marketing director for the film, said the movie is important because it gives the real story behind Obama, instead of the glamour shots given by the media.
"We are doing mainstream media’s job that they haven’t been doing," he said. "We have got a candidate that has been unexamined. We went back and talked to senators, folks in Chicago to get the full story."
The film included interviews with former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee; political commentator Robert Novak; former secretary of state Ken Blackwell; Illinois state Sen. Steven Rauschenberger and a slew of others. The film covers topics from Obama’s connection to the outspoken Revered Jeremiah Wright of Trinity Church in Chicago, to his stance on the war in Iraq.
Rauschenberger attended the premiere himself. He has been an outspoken critic of Obama since the announcement of his presidential bid. He said the movie presented enough information for the voters to decide for themselves who to vote for.
"I am not going to tell anyone how to vote, but I do think they need to know the truth," he said. "If you want to elect Obama, elect him with your eyes wide open."
In the movie, Rauschenberger expressed concerns over Obama’s lack of experience and what he called lack of effort as both an Illinois and U.S. senator.
Holley said U students helped obtain support for the movie and attributed a large crowd at the premiere to their efforts.
"They have been helping us by getting people excited and getting the word out," he said.

Film raps Obama as 'Hype' - By Christian Toto
The conservative group Citizens United will greet Democrats arriving for their convention this week in Denver with a new documentary skewering the party's presidential nominee, Sen. Barack Obama. "Hype: The Obama Effect," the group's latest film polemic, charges the senator is neither the unifier he claims to be, nor the political moderate who can rally the masses. But what impact, if any, can a partisan feature have, especially at a time when any documentary not directed by Michael Moore struggles to gain a wide audience? This wasn't the documentary David Bossie, president of Citizens United, expected to debut before the convention. His team spent 18 months creating "Hillary - The Movie" for the occasion. "Her campaign had a limited shelf-life," Mr. Bossie said with a chuckle. "Hype," which debuts Sunday, will also be screened during the Republican convention in Minneapolis next week. After that, it will play in theaters during September and October, according to Mr. Bossie. Citizens United David Bossie, president of Citizens United, will premiere his documentary "Hype: The Obama Effect" at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

GOP pans Obama's effect in 'The Obama Effect - By Tom Humphrey
While the official GOP "war room" critiques of Barack Obama and fellow Democrats begin Monday, some Republicans got a head start today. The premier showing of Hype: the Obama Effect, a documentary-style movie depicting the soon-to-be Democratic presidential nominee as a radical who has received undeserved acclaim, was held at Denver Pavilions Theater on the 16th Street Mall. One of those featured in the movie, former Illinois state Sen. Steven Rauschenberger, was on hand to tell reporters that Obama was "a big disappointment" to him and other legislators who served with Obama in the Illinois Senate starting in the late 1990s."He was one of the smartest people I ever worked with," Rauschenberger said. "At first, we (Republicans) thought he would be someone who could bridge the gap between the parties, someone we could work with."Instead, Rauschenberger said, Obama was partisan and devoted little time to his legislative duties."He was there to sign in and sign out," said Rauschenberger, who now operates a Washington-based consulting firm. "He's not a bad guy. But he was not an agent of change in the Illinois legislature."David Bossie, president of Citizens United Productions and producer of the movie, said plans call for airing the movie in theaters around the nation, one city at a time, through the campaign season while making videos and DVDs available through the Internet. Citizens United is a political advocacy group funded by donations, he said.

Obama Played by Chicago Rules - By David Freddoso
Democrats don't like it when you say that Barack Obama won his first election in 1996 by throwing all of his opponents off the ballot on technicalities.
By clearing out the incumbent and the others in his first Democratic primary for state Senate, Mr. Obama did something that was neither illegal nor even uncommon. But Mr. Obama claims to represent something different from old-style politics -- especially old-style Chicago politics. And the senator is embarrassed enough by what he did that he misrepresents it in the prologue of his political memoir, "The Audacity of Hope."

Obama faces new criticism on abortion - By Christopher Wills
Painted during the Democratic primary as weak on abortion rights, Barack Obama is now being portrayed as an extremist who literally supports killing babies.
But as a state senator, Obama repeatedly voted against that requirement and other restrictions on what opponents label "born alive" abortions. Obama says he opposed it only because of technical language that might have interfered with a woman's right to choose.
"Barack Obama is so radically pro-abortion he supports infanticide," Jill Stanek, an Illinois nurse and anti-abortion activist, wrote on her Web site.
"He needs to explain misleading people. He needs to explain why he apparently covered that up," Stanek said.

The Cavalry Has Arrived For John McCain - by Evie Stone
Now there's a new ad from Citizens United, which is promoting a film critical of Obama (the group had an anti-Hillary film set to go, but had to rush out the Obama version when he bested Clinton in the primaries). And Let Freedom Ring, a religious conservative advocacy group, has unveiled new ads calling Obama "worse than a flip-flopper."
Those two, combined with Vets for Freedom's ads (this one, for example), which back McCain's approach to the war in Iraq, puts conservative airtime power at about $1.4 million in July, according to estimates by the Campaign Media Analysis Group. An assortment of lefty groups, in contrast, scrambled up a comparatively paltry $243,000 in ad buys for the same period.

The Right Takes Aim at Media's Treatment of Obama
Fully expecting Sen. Clinton to be the Democratic presidential nominee, the conservative advocacy group Citizens United spent 18 months and millions of dollars making "Hillary: The Movie." But as the saying goes, God gave them lemons and they made "Hype: The Obama Effect."
"Hype" is a full-length feature documentary that will be released on DVD Sept. 1 and will be playing in select theaters across the country.
The trailer has been released online and advertising on FOX began this week. Citizens United hopes the timing is right to impact the election.
"Hype" is described as a critique of the mainstream media's love affair with Sen. Barack Obama. It features interviews with political leaders and media experts, and includes discussion of Michelle Obama, Tony Rezko and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
The main idea of the documentary is supported by a recent poll.
According to Rasmussen Reports, 49 percent of voters believe that most reporters will try to help Obama with their coverage, compared to only 14 percent for McCain.
Just 24 percent of voters believe that most reporters try to offer unbiased coverage.

New Motion Picture: HYPE The Obama Effect
"In the midst of the Global War on Terrorism, HYPE attempts to answer the question of whether the US will be safer or become a bigger target for terrorists and nations that support, finance and export terrorism? Will Senator Obama's actions match his eloquence in the toughest job in the world, or will his rapt and motivated crowds be left with little substance at the end of the day? HYPE: The Obama Effect lays out the truth rather than the fantasy created by a compliant -- even corrupt -- news media.
"HYPE's cast includes former Illinois State Senators Patrick O'Malley and Steve Rauschenberger, former US Senator Rick Santorum, African-American commentators Shelby Steele and Armstrong Williams, political strategist Dick Morris, journalists Byron York and Michael Barone, and many others who possess information necessary for voters to make an educated decision on whom should get their votes.
"While the mainstream news media ignore this well-crafted documentary, the alternative or 'new' media -- talk radio, the Internet's news/commentary web sites and blogosphere, and Fox News Channel -- are all buzzing about this important movie. Bossie and Peterson shine a bright light on the man many believe will sit in the Oval Office. The man who is pals with a former terrorist, an indicted businessman, and a supporter of Islamic terrorism. The man who possesses the most flimsy of legislative records while seeking the highest political office in America. The man who will command the most powerful and deadly military on the face of the earth."

According to its president, David Bossie, the film will probably include the Michelle Obama "proud of my country" clip. Bossie, a longtime Republican operative, bridled at the charge that singling her out is uncivil. "Nobody's picking on her; nobody's being unfair to her," he said. "She needs to be mindful that those types of statements will be used against her husband."
